Gabriel is a classically trained emerging composer whose work is rooted in a deep study of harmony, counterpoint, and the expressive possibilities of the classical tradition. Composing for nearly a decade, he has developed a growing body of works spanning choral, sacred, chamber, and instrumental music, with pieces written for choir, piano, string quartet, saxophone quartet, and other small ensembles. His music is particularly drawn to the emotional intensity and harmonic language of the late-Romantic tradition, while remaining deeply personal in its expression.

 

Gabriel’s compositional voice has been shaped through years of intensive study and an ongoing desire to understand not only how music works, but why it moves us. His music is often described as passionate and emotionally driven, with a particular emphasis on sincerity, lyricism, and harmonic depth. Whether writing for voices or instruments, he seeks to create music that communicates something deeply human and leaves a lasting emotional impression.

 

His work has already received recognition within the musical community at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where his Kyrie was premiered by the Queens College Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Dr. James John, Director of Choral Studies. Reflecting on the premiere, Dr. John wrote:

• “Gabriel Vukelic is a very talented young composer. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him on the premiere of his Kyrie, written for the Queens College Vocal Ensemble, which I conduct. His music is heartfelt, passionate, and very well-written for voices. All of the choir members loved singing it, which is a testament to his creativity and gift. I think he has a very bright future ahead.”

Gabriel continues to develop his compositional voice through performance, study, and the creation of new works, with the goal of writing music that is both technically compelling and genuinely moving.
